A BATTING collapse saw Chippenham hanging on for a draw in a West of England Premier League game they should have won.

Chasing a home side's total of 258 for five, Chippenham were in the driving seat at 209 for three, but then lost six wickets for the addition of only 37 runs, leaving last pair Rumble and Rose to play out for the draw.

Chippenham went into the game with a limited bowling attack, with Paul Clifford injured and playing as a batsman only, and soon lost the services of George Hammond, who dislocated a finger in his fourth over.

Weston batted first and Stuart Bail top scored with 73 before he became one of three victims for Richard Bates, who finished with figures of three for 62 from his 18 overs.

Chippenham looked well set to pass the total, with Neil Stoddard (25) and Richard Bates (69) sharing a useful first wicket partnership before both were out withe score on 97.

Ian Merryweather (35) and Hammond (63) added 86 for the third wicket, but after their dismissals wickets tumbled.

Chippenham are away to Clifton-Flax Bourton Saturday, July 8.
