RUNAWAY piglet Bertie is safely back home with his family after two days of freedom when he escaped from a summer fun day.
The three-month-old Iron Age pig, a cross between a wild boar and a Tamworth, disappeared from an event at the Kings Arms pub in Monkton Farleigh on Saturday, July 1.
His owner Gary Emery was left following up sightings from as far away as the M1 until he received a call on Monday, July 3, to say the piglet had been found near Limpley Stoke.
The escape has grabbed national headlines and is reminiscent of the Tamworth Two, who made world-wide news when they escaped from a Malmesbury slaughterhouse two years ago.
Mr Emery said: I had put him in a pen at the pub with another pig, Sidre, and had just gone home to type out a poster saying 'The Monkton Two' when I had a phone call saying he had gone.
I am chuffed to pieces he was found. He has been quite aggressive since, but it was probably a frightening experience for him.
He said the youngster, who is still being weaned, is now happily back home with the rest of his family at a small holding near the village.
