A PROCESSION of spectacular giants will tower over Lacock this weekend, July 8 and 9, as the village's Millennium celebrations come to an end.

The giants have been made by different organisations in the village.

Each depicts a part of Lacock's history and has been made from recycled or waste materials.

The celebrations coincide with the youth event, Festival 3000, which has been taking part at Lacock Abbey this week.

Actor Nick Moran, who shot to fame in the cult film Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, has been working with youngsters at the festival. He will take part in a football tournament on the field behind the Red Lion on Saturday at 3pm.

He will be pitting his skills alongside former Swindon Town midfielder Mickey Hazard and Sky Sport's soccer AM presenter Tim Lovejoy.

The procession of giants which starts at 6.30pm, will culminate on the abbey field, where there will be a barn dance in a marquee and music from blues band Tailfeather.

The climax of the event will be a ceremonial burning of the giants on a bonfire. On Sunday there will a special service at St Cyriac's Church at 11am and a picnic and fun day at the abbey in the afternoon.
