A FIREMAN needed hospital treatment after he was hit on the head by a vodka bottle hurled at him from a first floor window, a court heard.

Claire Mackey, 26, had been drinking heavily when she launched the attack on Martin Gleed, who was investigating an alarm at her home.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction, sending the case to Swindon Crown Court and remanding her in custody after she pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm.

The fire brigade had been sent to Calvert Road, Old Walcot at 9.30pm on Monday, July 3, after receiving reports of an alarm going off.

Di Walker, prosecuting, told magistrates that Mr Gleed was outside when the bottle was thrown at him from an upstairs window, hitting him on the helmet.

She said It caused a three quarters of an inch long gash to the head which needed hospital treatment, where it was glued. "

The police were called and bottles and other items were still being thrown from the window and they had to force an entry.

Upstairs they found the defendant lying on the floor clearly very drunk."

When Mackay was later deemed fit to be interviewed she told officers that she had gone out to get some vodka and paracetamol to attempt to commit suicide.

Tony Nowogrodzki, defending, said his client had a long history of mental illness including a tranquilliser dependency, an eating disorder, self harming and a drink problem.

The case was adjourned to the crown court.
