A SCHEME to pilot the widespread use of dog bins could be launched in West Swindon following an appeal by a ten-year-old schoolgirl.
Westlea Primary School pupil, Beverley Harris, 10, was so fed up with dodging dog mess on her way to school that she set about collecting signatures from her classmates, calling on the council to get to the bottom of the problem.
Her 97-name petition was welcomed at the first meeting of the council's West Area Panel on Thursday, July 6, where it received unanimous support.
Newly elected chairman Nick Martin (Toothill, Con) said: We ought to put this to the cabinet, pointing out that it has the full support of all the councillors on the West panel.
He suggested that bins should be provided in Westlea, Shaw, Freshbrook and Grange Park in the form of a pilot project which could then be extended to cover the rest of the town.
And the committee agreed to bring up the issue at the next cabinet meeting.
