THE death of motorcyclist Sean Terrell in a head-on crash at Ogbourne St Andrew has reinforced demands for more safety improvements on the Swindon-Marlborough-Salisbury road which have the backing of MPs Michael Ancram and Robert Key.

Mr Terrell, 27, from Haydon Wick, Swindon, was the eighth victim to die in the last five years on the busy route. He was certified dead at the scene after his 600cc Kawasaki machine was in collision with a car. The 76-year-old car driver from Pewsey and his wife, 50, were both detained in hospital overnight with minor injuries.

Police launched an appeal for witnesses to the crash at 8.30pm on Wednesday June 28th, on the A346 close to the Wetpit Lane turning to Ogbourne St Andrew.

Devizes MP Mr Ancram and Salisbury MP Mr Key have both played a leading role in a working party set up by parish and town councils along the route to look into ways safety can be improved and the death toll cut.

The MPs recently met Wiltshire County Council officers to convey their concern. The council agreed a full assessment of the 50-mile route should be carried out to identify ways it can be made safer.
