AERIALS and chimney pots will be among items salvaged for recycling from a housing development in Calne.

The 40 flats in Stokes Croft, Calne, are to be pulled down in August to make way for 50 new houses.

Enterprising resident Sarah Elliott, who lives elsewhere in Stokes Croft, noted some items from the flats could be of use.

She approached developer Westlea Housing Association and will store items at her home to pass on to anybody who could make use of them.

I am looking at anything such as chimney pots and aerials which could be recycled, she said.

People can come to me and I will then ask Westlea Housing Association if that item can be saved at minimal cost.

Mrs Elliott and others have even plucked flowers from outside the soon-to-be-demolished houses.

There has to be a use for things rather than seeing them go to a landfill site, she said.
