THE first Calne Community Clear Out Day met with a mixed response from the town's residents.
On Sunday, July 2, homeowners from an area from Quemerford to the town centre were asked to place unwanted items outside their houses and a central collection point was set up in John Bentley School.
I was quite disappointed with the lack of enthusiasm to place items on the streets, said town centre manager Mitch Roberts.
The collection at John Bentley School was a great success, though, and I reckon we attracted around 1,000 people.
Toys and bicycles were among the items picked up at the collection point at John Bentley School.
Some remaining goods have been donated to charity and any unwanted items on the street were collected by refuse collectors.
