THOUSANDS of people descended on the little village of Heddington to enjoy a weekend of traditional country entertainment at the 23rd Heddington and Stockley Steam Rally.
Organisers had to open an extra car park as those put off by the weather on Saturday, July 2, turned out in force on Sunday, July 3, to enjoy the fun of the fair and watch the displays of steam engines, steam rollers, classic cars and motorbikes.
The two-day event attracted more than 8,000 visitors, as many steam enthusiasts travelled from miles around to be treated to a display of 19 engines, 70 vintage motorbikes, 60 vintage tractors and 100 vintage cars.
Other crowd pullers were the helicopter rides, lawnmower racing, pig racing and craft exhibitions.
Several fields were taken over by marquees, fairground rides, exhibitions and stalls.
More than £110,000 has been raised for village amenities since the rally was set up 23 years ago. This year's event is hoped to have raised in the region of £10,000.
Treasurer Nigel Holman said: We had about 8,000 visitors this year which is similar to last year. The weather on Saturday put some people off, as just when they stepped outside it started raining, but attendance was well up on Sunday.
