STEVE ROBINSON has laughed off the fact that Town's last Second Division championship success came at Chesterfield.

While history shows Steve McMahon's team clinched the 1995-96 title with a 3-1 win at Saltergate, Turbo doesn't care.

He said: "No disrespect, but that was then. No-one should start getting carried away with results, supporters or media. I can assure you that the players aren't."

'Turbo' famously once stated that the reason footballers use cliches is because they are true.

The 26-year-old midfielder is clinging stubbornly to the 'take each game as it comes' classic.

He said: "You can see the confidence among the boys. I felt we should have had the game wrapped up by half-time at Port Vale the other night.

"I think Port Vale showed the supporters the type of performance we're capable of when all the boys are playing well and have complete faith in what they're trying to achieve."

Robinson knows not every game will be as comfortable as the win at Vale Park and is adamant that no-one will head for Saltergate tomorrow expecting anything less than an almighty tussle.

He said: "It is not the easiest of places to go and it will be very tough. It's a tight ground where you can feel a bit boxed-in.

"But we go there knowing we can dig in when we have to, but also play some decent stuff.

"Hopefully the fans will travel up and continue to give us the brilliant support they have shown at all our away games, as well as getting behind us at the County Ground."
