ROY EVANS has told his players that the 'high' of recent results will not be enough to earn three points at Chesterfield today.

The game sees two of the division's 'form' teams facing each other.

Town are unbeaten in five league games, while the Spireites have notched two victories in the space of a week.

Director of football Roy Evans is delighted with the improvement which has lifted Town into ninth place but knows how fragile confidence can be in the game.

He said: "Chesterfield had a good result in the week, while we performed well at Port Vale.

"Our players are obviously full of confidence after some good results but they also have to remember the things they have done to bring about better results and performances.

"You have to earn the right to play the football you want to in a game.

"That means continuing to put in the hard work. But the attitude of the players has been excellent and they are starting to show what they are capable of."

The director of football is determined to keep expectations from soaring beyond reality.

He said: "We are only eight matches into a very long season. There is still a long, long way for this club to go. It is important that everyone, including the supporters, remember that."

While Evans is confident Town can continue their good run at Saltergate, he will be without Neil Ruddock.

The player-coach has not recovered from the groin injury which forced him to hobble off against Port Vale.

Town's other casualty is Sol Davis, also with a groin problem.
