Supermarine boss John Murphy has unveiled his first signings for the club.

The new Hunts Copse supremo has moved quickly to secure the services of his old proteges Paul Donnelly and Nick Beaverstock, both of whom played under Murphy during his spell in charge at Cinderford.

The versatile Beaverstock has been signed from Screwfix Premier Division outfit Odd Down.

The experienced utility man also spent two seasons at local rivals Chippenham Town following his time at Cinderford.

But it's the signing of Donnelly that will raise a few eyebrows.

The tough-tackling midfielder only left the Copse a month ago to join Western Division leaders Clevedon Town.

Donnelly failed to cement a guaranteed place in the Clevedon starting line-up and has opted to return to Marine in search of regular first team football.

"I was sent-off in my second game at Clevedon, and I couldn't get back in the team after that," said Donnelly who has a chequered disciplinary record to say the least.

"I wasn't happy sat on the bench. I'm 24 and I just want to be playing football.

"When I heard that John Murphy had taken charge and that Marine were interested in re-signing me, I knew that I'd be mad not to take the opportunity."

Donnelly cited the appointment of Murphy as a major factor in his swift return to Swindon.

He said: "Murph's a very good manager and a very clever man. He has great contacts in the game and I really believe he can get us out of trouble.

"I played under Murph for three years. He knows my game and he knows how to get the best from me.

"I have a reputation for being a bit of a hot-head, but John is the one manager who knows how to handle me and keep me in line."

Donnelly admitted that although he enjoyed the surroundings at Clevedon, he's more than pleased to be back at Hunts Copse.

"Clevedon are a great club with a good set-up," he said.

"But I really enjoyed my first spell at Marine. They're a smashing bunch of lads here, and it's great to be back."

Murphy will want his two new signings to provide some added midfield steel and protect a fragile Marine rearguard.

Both will expect to figure in Saturday's vital home clash with Weston-super-Mare.

Meanwhile loan stars Jamie Mills and Dave Toomey have finally left Hunts Copse.

Mills has returned to employers Bath City, although the former Swindon Town midfielder is expected to make a permanent switch to Clevedon.

And after much speculation, Tiverton forward Toomey has finally completed a move to League of Wales outfit Barry Town.
