A SOLID all-round performance by Chippenham saw them cement their lead at the top of South West Division Two East with an important away win at title challengers Windsor.

The late withdrawal of centre Tom Crockett saw Reynolds move in from the wing, with his place being taken by backs coach Dilwyn Richardson in his first game of the season.

Chippenham took the lead after 15 minutes with a superb solo try by wing Jocelyn Barnes, who jinked his way through a maze of defenders from 20 yards out. Reynolds added a penalty soon after before skipper Scott Sherratt extended the lead with a try from a sweeping three-quarter move which saw Reynolds and full back Grant Trewartha tear open the Windsor midfield.

Windsor came back to narrow the score line with two penalties before a period of Chippenham pressure on the Windsor line saw the ball moved wide quickly for Barnes to cross for his second try and take Chippenham into the break with a comfortable 20-6 lead.

The second half proved to be much more evenly contested, with Windsor's powerful pack managing to slow down Chippenham ball at the ruck and so limit their attacking opportunities. As the half wore on Windsor's confidence rose and after a number of attempts they scored their first try.

Despite losing winger Richardson with a blood injury and number eight Kevin Thornton to the sin bin, Chippenham halted any fightback with more adventurous attacking play.

A breakout from their own half saw Barnes spurn a golden opportunity for a hat-trick but quickly recycled ball saw lock Kenny Brown lurking on the wing and he was able to cross untouched to secure the points.
