THOUSANDS of real ale enthusiasts met in Chippenham at the weekend to enjoy the 11th annual Chippenham Beer Festival.

The event was organised by the North West Wiltshire branch of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale.

Two thousand people gathered at the Olympiad to try real ale from across the country.

Even North Wiltshire MP James Gray popped in to whet his taste buds.

Gareth Macdonald, the chairman of the North West Wiltshire branch of CAMRA said: "It went very well. We sold out of tickets and beer although there was a bit left for the hard working organisers.

"Clearly there is a demand for real ale in Chippenham, we proved that by the sales of ale over the weekend."

More than 6,000 pints were tasted and at least 80 real ales and 15 ciders and perrys from more than 60 brewers were available.

Finest Spring, a green ale from Stonehenge Ales, proved popular.
