BUSINESS adviser George Trytsman is the new chairman of Salisbury & South Wiltshire Learning Partnership, the organisation that aims to deliver "all kinds of learning to all kinds of people throughout their lives".

Mr Trytsman, who began his career in the army, worked for Citibank and ran three businesses in financial services, printing and property development before joining Business Link in 1998.

He said his objective was to "take learning into the community and to provide learning opportunities for everyone".

"If people are learning that will be of benefit to them and to the business community," he said.

"What I want to do is to try to get the business community more involved, for example, by opening their premises so people can see how to run a business."

He said a key part of the partnership's strategy was its newly-launched mobile learning unit, managed by Salisbury College, which will take learning into the rural community.

"It will park in car parks, industrial estates and villages and people will be able to have access to the internet and to new skills," he said.

Mr Trytsman takes over the chairmanship from Salisbury College principal Gill Brain who, he said, was responsible for the excellent Strategy for Learning document, detailing the partnership's aims.
