AFTER six consecutive titles, Cooper-Avon Rangers' reign as Premier Division champions of the Vanitec Computers sponsored Chippenham League has finally come to an end.

Rangers have lost their crown to Box Rovers, whose 8-0 win over Melksham Motor Spares secured them their first ever championship with two games remaining as they made it 13 wins on the bounce.

Rob Humphreys hit a first half double to send Rovers on their way. Ben Sammut (2), Tom Smith, Jamie Harrison and first time scorers Luke Risbrook and Rob Green completed the scoring.

For Rovers it made up for the disappointment of last season when they would surely have won the title had the season not ended early due to the weather and foot and mouth crisis.

Cooper-Avon Rangers avenged their earlier 5-0 defeat against bottom of the table Bradford News, with a 5-2 victory.

An ill-tempered local derby between Corsham Centre United and Corsham FC went the way of the Centre 3-1 whose manager Adrian Carey finished his last game in charge on a high.

Carey took the Centre from Division Three to the Premier and on the way he picked up the Division One title and the Subsidiary Cup, both in the 1998/99 season.

The Centre was indebted to goalkeeper Chris Jones after only 10 minutes when he tipped an Andy Sibbick effort over the bar. Midway through the half Centre's Neil Brown lobbed Corsham goalkeeper Chris King only for the wind to deny him what would have been a fantastic goal.

On 35 minutes Corsham's Craig Gingell upended Simon Dent in the area, but the resulting spot kick was blasted over the bar by Frank Rogers.

Corsham took the lead in the 61st minute from the penalty spot when Simon Young scored after Dave Crawford had bought Ken Brown down in the box. Two minutes later the game boiled over and both Andy Sibbick (Corsham FC) and Neil Brown (Centre) were dismissed after the players clashed after Sibbick had taken Brown out in the area. The resulting spot kick was converted by Centre goalkeeper Jones to make it 1-1.

Corsham went down to nine men in the 73rd minute when Richard Boore was shown the red card. Five minutes later Dave Kilmurray lobbed his team ahead and he completed the scoring in the 80th minute when he finished of an excellent team move by curling home a superb effort.

Malmesbury Town continued their revival as they made it three wins from their last three games as they hit Packhorse for five without reply. Allan Webb (3), Anthony Vizard and Lee Bevis scored.

Division One

ALL Cannings confirmed their promotion to the top flight as goals from Richard Holman (3), Stuart Bevan, Martin Baker, Mark Trowbridge, Tony Greenidge and an own goal earned them an 8-0 victory over a Chippenham Police side who had only 10 players.

Holman's third goal was All Cannings' 100th of the season.

The only question that remains to answered is whether it will be All Cannings or Hullavington Village who will be crowned champions.

Gladstone Liberal Club came from behind to earn a 2-1 win over Maud Heath Sports. Ian Townsend put Sports ahead, with Luke Stoneham levelling right on half-time. Last week's losing Knockout Cup finalists earned their eighth consecutive league victory when Danny Alison hit the winner.

Division Two

LEADERS Terry's FC and second placed West End Wanderers picked up important wins in midweek as both kept their promotion chances on track.

Terry's maintained their title challenge but had to come from behind to clinch the points with a 2-1 win against Miller Sports.

West End stayed in touch with Terry's courtesy of a 4-2 victory over Old Lane United. Old Lane took a first half lead with a Rob Hickman header and held it until West End introduced their top scorer Nathan Mantle at the break. Mantle helped himself to a second half hat-trick , with Tony Kelly scoring their fourth, before Mark Baldwin netted Old Lane's second from the penalty spot.

Terry's FC followed up their midweek win with a 4-0 victory over local rivals North Bradley.

Westbridge United remain in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot after they defeated second placed West End Wanderers 3-1.

Potley United could field only 10 men for their final match of the season against Bradford Sports but put up a spirited and battling display before losing 6-0.

Old Lane United had one of the results of the day as they defeated Pig and Whistle United with only ten men.

Aaron Richardson put Pig and Whistle ahead before goals from Marcus Young and Mark McIntyre gave Old Lane a half-time advantage. Young added his second to put Old Lane 3-1 in front before Mark Bridger reduced the arrears.

Paul Maddox restored Old Lane's two goal advantage with a superb solo effort which saw him run from the half way line before unleashing an unstoppable shot.

Paul McCarthy hit Pig and Whistle's third and only an outstanding save from Old Lane's Paul Kidley late in the game enabled his side to hang on to two well deserved points.

Division Three

THURSDAY night saw Semington Rovers clinch promotion to the Second Division after a 2-2 draw with Southwick Sports and Social Club.

Semington went one better on Sunday and picked up both points from their game with Sir Audley Arms after earning a crushing 8-1 victory.

Adam O'Keefe scored the Arms' consolation.

Rovers need one point from their remaining two games to be certain of the title.

But is unlikely that they will lose out as Chippenham Black Horse need to score at least 25 goals in their final game if they are going to overtake them on goal difference.

Southwick Sports and Social Club shared the points in a 1-1 draw with Christian Malford.

Gary Blackwood netted Malford's first half equaliser.

Biddestone Social Club never performed to their true potential but still managed to win 7-0 at home against AFC Unicorn.

Paul Poiner (3), Mike Few (2), John O'Meara and Luke Barrett shared the goal scoring for Biddestone.

Division Four

WHITE Horse FC and Classic FC drew 1-1, with Ian Doull scoring the Horse's goal after two minutes and Shane Rendall levelling.

For the second week running Roadrunners hit eight past Bradstone Rovers as they followed up last week's 8-3 victory with an 8-1 romp.
