COUN Ken Beard marked his last full council meeting as the chairman of Kennet District Council by presenting money to two charities last week.
He handed cheques for £300 each to the Danbi Children's Trust, based in Etchilhampton, which raises money for equipment for disabled children, and Cancer Research UK.
The money was raised by Kennet staff in a Christmas raffle and at a recent skittles match.
Jenny Rathbone, the chairman and founder of Danbi, said the councillors and staff could be assured their money was going to the right place.
"We are currently helping a little girl in All Cannings who has cerebral palsy and cannot walk or talk," she said.
" We have just provided her with an electronic box with which she can communicate by touch."
Karen Willis, from Cancer Research UK, said the organisation would continue its fight against the disease and welcomed the council's contribution.
Coun Beard will officially hand over tonew chairman Janet Giles at the full council meeting on May 16.
