After the disappointment of missing out on promotion to South West Division One at the weekend Chippenham turned their attention to the semi-final of the Bath Combination Cup with the visit of Westbury to Allington Field.

After a day of persistent rain the match proved to be error strewn with the home side eventually pulling away in the final third to book their place in Thursday's final at Bath's Recreation Ground.

Chippenham, probably still feeling the after affects of Saturday's defeat, struggled early in the game before full back, James Barnard, crossed to settle their nerves.

With Dorset & Wilts Division One champions Westbury playing a fully committed game it wasn't until shortly before half time that Chippenham extended their lead as Barnard added two penalty kicks in quick succession.

The second half saw Chippenham increase their grip on the game but too often their lack of clinical finishing held them back before they began to hit their stride against tiring opponents in the final third of the game.

Winger Joscelyn Barnes, was the first to benefit from a well worked three-quarter move to score. Barnard converted before adding a second try minutes later.

With sucker punches added by Number 8, Kevin Thornton and centre, Rupert Crockett, in the final five minutes Chippenham eased their way into the final against Walcot Old Boys.
