A specialist team of soldiers from Bulford has been in great demand by military and civilian authorities in Kabul.
Major John Adlington and his team of Royal Engineers cartographers from the 3rd (UK) Division Geographic Unit have been in the Afghan capital for most of the year where they have been the only source of reliable maps.
The success of the unit is based on the speed and accuracy which they produce new maps.
"We produce maps showing international security assistance force boundaries and police district guides as well as maps showing potentially dangerous areas like minefields," said Maj Adlington.
"All our maps are interchangeable so we can add or change details very quickly and accurately.
"We have the equipment to analyse local data and produce colour maps almost immediately," he said
