YOUNGSTERS at Key Day Nursery in Calne were able to get a closer look at some weird and wonderful creatures when students dropped in with some of the collection from Wiltshire College Lackham.

The toddlers were able to stroke a chameleon, get close to a tarantula, and examine some very large beetles and giant African snails.

Gillian Key, who owns the nursery, said the visit had been a great success and staff were confident that the Lackham students went home with everything they arrived with.

"The visit was a really good opportunity for the children to get really close to some animals they would not normally see," she said.

"They were able to get close up and touch the animals."

The students talked about how each needs to be cared for, what food they ate and how they lived in the wild.

"The visit was both good fun and educational," said Mrs Key, who set up the nursery school in Calne 11 years ago.

"We have invited Lackham students back but their next visit will be with furry animals."
