I DO hope that now the new park and ride is open it will be given its proper name of Croft Park and Ride since it is neither in Wroughton nor wanted in that place by Wroughton residents.
Some years ago as the then parish council chairman, together with the parish council clerk, I attended the public enquiry and spoke against the siting of the so-called Croft Park and Ride because it would do nothing to improve traffic through Wroughton in general and North Wroughton in particular.
A favoured site was on the outskirts of Wroughton off the Devizes Road. However, the decision went against that view. Wroughton parish boundary ends on the south side of the M4.
The A4361 is called Swindon Road until the Swindon side of the motorway bridge and then, together with the spur road to the Drove Veterinary Surgery, becomes Croft Road. The area is called Croft. So let's get the name right.
It is also interesting to see that there are already problems in the locality of the site.
