CHIPPENHAM's under 8s, 11s and 12s enjoyed a successful day on Sunday when they travelled to Newbury RFC.

The under 8s took two teams, the Eagles and the Hawks. The Hawks, Chippenham's B team, failed to win their group, although they lost in extra-time in a play off against Newbury's B team.

Chippenham Eagles won their group and battled their way to the final against Newbury A. The match finished at 2-2 but Newbury lifted the cup by virtue of having scored more tries in the competition.

The under 12s faced tough opposition in their respective group, coming up against teams from Ampthill, Devonport and Newbury. Chippenham beat Ampthill 24-0 and drew with Devonport, but could not find a way past the hosts and went down 14-7.

Chippenham's results sent them into the Bowl play-offs, where they drew Clifton before going through to the final on the try countback system.

They turned the tables on Newbury in the final and lifted the Bowl after a 14-0 victory in the final. Coach Rob Emery said: "We won so convincingly because the lads for hungry for success after a long hard season.''

The under 11s also tasted success, defeating Abbey 7-0 in the plate final.
