Another away loss and sub-standard performance following the previous week is unfortunately all too familiar for us this season.

Our inability to produce any sort of consistency even of average quality continues to leave us in a perilous position at the uncomfortable end of the table.

More honesty, soul searching and hard work has been on the menu this week.

Our failings sadly show little reflection of the effort being put in by the squad and coaching team. But they do highlight a poor grasp of basic skills, resulting in an inability to deliver at this level.

However this squad will now move to our final chance of a win away from home, at Gloucester, a fantastic place to play rugby.

The fervent fans dwelling in the shed will no doubt be in full voice. I have enjoyed playing at Kingsholm more than any other ground since I have been at Bath.

Away from Bath the Premiership players across the country have been asked to vote for player of the year, young player of the year (both incidentally Bath players last year) and team of the year.

Here are my votes, the only stipulation being no votes for players from your own club!

Player of the year: Jason Robinson, Young player: Charlie Hodgson.

Team: J. Robinson, B. Cohen, R. Kafer, B. Venter, F. Tuilagi, C. Hodgson, B. Redpath, N. Hatley, O.Azam, F. Pucciarello, M. Johnson, B. Kay, L. Moody, R. Hill, C. Sheasby.

The quality of these players speaks volumes for the quality of the Premiership in this country and also shows the challenge that Leicester have overcome to be champions again.

Our own stars of the future will be contesting the under 19 cup final against Bristol on Bank Holiday Monday at Northampton RFC. Some of the brightest prospects in that side are Spencer Davy, who made his first team debut last week in the centre, and Jon Pendlebury, the England U19 captain.
