THE council has seen fit to raise council taxes by a staggering 11.2 per cent to £1,030.19 for Band D houses.

The current rate of inflation is two per cent and I believe, as a reflection of this, council payment to residential homes was raised by approximately this figure. On breaking down the overall figure, the following facts emerge: five times inflation to Wiltshire County Council; five times inflation to Wiltshire Police Authority; 4.25 times inflation to West Wiltshire District Council; and unbelievably by 19 times inflation to Melksham Town Council.

Having had a huge rise of three per cent net on my pension, please tell me where these quite enormous rises are going to be spent and can we expect further rises of this magnitude in the future?
