THE NUMBER of teachers and support staff in South West schools is going up.
The news is a massive boost to Swindon, which last year was suffering from a chronic shortage of teachers.
Figures released today showed there are 800 more teachers and 2,200 more support staff in the region this year.
South Swindon MP Julia Drown said: "These figures are very encouraging.
"They show that the Government is committed to improving our schools, and committed to the teaching profession.
"Of course, we cannot be complacent there are still problems of recruitment and retention which I want to see the Government address, but these figures show that we are moving in the right direction.
"More teachers and more support staff means better education for Swindon children."
