THREE university students who spent four days on the run from Dartmoor prison during a charity jailbreak have raised nearly £900 for good causes.
Catherine Kirkham, 20, of Trowbridge, Suzanne Huxham and Tanya Williams travelled 715 miles in 96 hours, collecting sponsorship as they went.
Miss Kirkham, a former Clarendon School pupil, said: "We raised a total of £886.80, completely smashing the existing record set by student teams.
"I would like to thank the shoppers of Trowbridge who gave donations outside Tesco and Asda on April 23.
"I would also like to give a big thank you to Trowbridge Fire Station and shoppers outside Asda on April 24. With an hour until we had to hand ourselves in and £44.17 away from the record we managed to raise £88.23."
Miss Kirkham said: "We had a fantastic time raising money for two exceptionally worthy charities: Vranch House school for children with cerebral palsy and Devon Air Ambulance."
