A VILLAGE school near Trowbridge has been celebrating its 150th anniversary with a week of special events.

Pupils at Wingfield Primary School have been going back in time to learn more about how life was for the very first pupils at the school.

On Wednesday the children dressed up in Victorian clothes and spent the day in a Victorian school.

Headteacher Jo Miness said: "We had separate boys and girls entrances and we cleared out all the modern furniture from the hall and put the desks in rows."

Mr Miness said: "I think the children really enjoyed it."

The Victorian theme was continued on Thursday with a science fair emulating the great exhibition of 1851.

The festivities culminate tomorrow with a Victorian picnic on the school grounds.
