A LADIES' night organised by Helen Pocock-Smith, wife of the worshipful master of the Lodge of Loyalty in Marlborough, raised more than £2,230 for charities, which Swindon firm Innogy is doubling.

The money is to be shared between the Savernake Hospital trolley shop through the League of Friends, the Jubilee Centre, which Mrs Pocock-Smith's late mother, Lorna Pocock, helped to found in 1977 and the Prospect Hospice.

One of the highlights of the evening on Saturday was a tombola, with more than 40 prizes given by local companies and individuals, and an auction in which the lots included vacuum cleaners donated by Dyson and a half case of champagne, raising a total of £2,235.

Mrs Pocock-Smith's employer, Innogy plc, agreed to match the amount pound for pound, making a total of £4,470.

Swindon Male Voice Choir performed free of charge for the event.
