Town director Bob Holt has admitted that early season ticket sales are beyond the club's expetations.

The Town board must have feared the worst after the ferocious fans backlash following the recent price hike.

But the hostile reaction appears to have simmered, and over 150 season tickets have been snapped up already.

Holt is predictably pleased with initial sales and believes that the loyal Town fans have taken the dramatic increase on the chin understanding that the increased revenue is required in order for the club to reclaim some form of financial stability.

"We are delighted with the initial response," said Holt.

"It has been very encouraging. The fans have shown their loyalty.

"Many of the 150 are also new season ticket holders, so we are attracting new people too. We played well at home at the end of the season and I think the fans are responding to that.

"I also think that people have now accepted the price increase - they understand that the club needs the income. The season ticket price still represents good value against the price of the casual ticket."

The initial wrath of the fans prompted Holt and co to introduce a season ticket discount based on early purchase.

Those buying their's before May 20 receive a 15 per cent discount and a £20 voucher for the club shop.

The incentive seems to have taken effect, with early demand up 35 per cent on last season. But Holt is hoping that sales continue to go well after discount deadline day. He said:

"Early discounts have been offered in previous years, but we are still 35% up on early season ticket sales far beyond our expectations.

"It's difficult to say whether the initial response is just a reaction to the discount.

"The flow of recent years indicate that this is not the case, and we are hopeful that sales will continue to tick over during the summer."
