BOB Holt insists the need to increase revenue while reducing costs will mean an end to the 'freebie' culture at the County Ground.

Many fans are bitterly unhappy that ticket prices will rise considerably next year but Mr Holt insists it is a case of belt-tightening across the board, and indeed, in the boardroom.

Whether backing Town or their visitors, the days of a 'free lunch' look numbered for all but a privileged few next year.

The emphasis is now on quality rather than quantity.

Mr Holt said: "Complimentaries, in whatever form, will be drastically reduced.

"Staff and players will get a little leeway but there is no question of perks being dished out to all and sundry.

"Non-executive directors will have to pay for their tickets from next season.

"Instead of the board room being used as an 'old boys club' it will be used for entertaining people who want to support the club.

"We will have individuals and companies in there who have supported the club through thick and thin, as well as those who want to get involved for the first time."

Football League rules dictate that a minimum number of complimentary tickets be issued, but Town will not go above that limit.

Mr Holt said: "It is a question of us having really good housekeeping.

"For example, we introduced a director's buffet towards the end of last season rather than the traditional sit-down meal. Not only is it more economical, while still being of high quality, it allows people to chat and mingle which they seem to enjoy.

"But being financially prudent does not mean cutting quality. We will be offering the best food and hospitality to those who get behind this club.

"As for other areas, we are cutting down on mobile phone usage, there will be fewer overnight stays for the team, indeed everyone has to play their part.

"But despite all our efforts we are still looking at a loss next year of around half-a-million pounds."
