A FAMILY of council tenants were left with an outdoor pool they did not want after a drainage pipe running underneath their Penhill home ruptured.

Water started coming up from under-neath the front garden of the house in Latton Close during heavy rain and created a 1ft deep pool.

In spite of phone-calls to the council the leak had yet to be fixed yesterday and became a playground for youngsters.

Sara Lavagna, 38, who lives in the house, said: "When I went out to work yesterday the little kids were up to their knees.

"It's just a mess, it's disgusting. I'm fed up with it after waiting for a week for someone to deal with it."

Today, council spokesman Adrian Ruck said: "There was a delay because the pipe runs underneath the road and we needed Highways Department approval to dig it up so the plumbers can look into it."

He said council workman planned to fix the leak today.
