A FIVE-CAR crash on the M4 led to a three-lane closure and a 10-mile tailback stretching from Chippenham almost to the Leigh Delamere services during rush hour this morning.

The accident happened near a sliproad at junction 17 on the eastbound carriageway.

Insp Simon Dicks of Swindon Police said two cars, two vans and a lorry were involved.

There were no injuries apart from "walking wounded", although damage to the central reservation would need extensive repair work.
