WILTSHIRE CRICKET LEAGUE: BOX continue to set the pace in Division One as they won for the second week.

They travelled to Calne and scored 199-7 in their allotted overs before restricting their hosts to 155-9 in reply.

Westinghouse entertained Potterne and scored 153-8, thanks to Christian Fry (46 not out) as Barry Sanders took 4-27.

The Potterne batting then came unstuck as John Cleverley returned the most economical figures in the league of, 10 overs, nine maidens, four wickets, one run.

He was ably supported by Stuart Thompson, with 2-19 in 11.5 overs, and Heath Sole-Davis, 2-19 in nine, as Potterne collapsed to 40 all out in 30.5 overs.

At Beanacre, another superb bowling performance helped Bath Civil Service to a 31-run win. The Civil Service scored 194-8, with John Down (52) top scoring as Andy Story took 4-61 in 15 overs and Andy Footner 3-46 in his 15. In reply, Paul Gilbert hit a fine 68 and had good support from Rob Howard (28) and John Adcock (24), but it was figures of 13.2 overs, one maiden, nine wickets, 52 runs by John Fair which saw Beanacre all out for 163.

Burbage's batsmen recovered a little from last week's collapse to help them to a four-wicket win at Buscot Park. Buscot scored 124 all out, Garry Thomson making 29 and John Morton 24 as Terry Chaplin took 5-44 in 14 overs. Then, despite Joe White's 4-31 in 14 overs for Buscot, it was Pete Amor (30 not out) and Roy Barker (26) who steered Burbage home with three balls to spare.

Division Two

NATIONWIDE House won again, this time by seven wickets at home to Highworth.

The visitors scored 128 all out, with Rob Miller making 32 and Stuart Archer (3-23) and Mark Morris (3-38) returning the best bowling figures for Nationwide.

In their reply a rapid 69 in 52 balls from Mark Vincent saw the home team to victory with 12 overs to spare.

Minety picked up their first win as they held home side Bradford Town to 155-9, Clive Warren making 55 and Trevor Scott taking 4-31 in 10 overs. Mike Gregory (50 not out) then steered Minety to a seven-wicket success with 10 overs remaining.

Great Bedwyn lost a close game at home to Lechlade. The visitors scored 198-6, with Nick Smith making 58, Roger Pettifer 44 and Chris Blundy taking 4-49 in 15 overs. Then, despite 47 from Blundy and 50 from George Stone, it was Smith, with 6-48 in 15 overs, who swung the game Lechlade's way as Bedwyn were bowled out for 186 with just three overs to spare.

At Sutton Veny, Colin Brown (56 not out) top scored for the home side in their total of 184-5 against Cooper-Avon Tyres. A good all round display in the field then saw the visitors bowled out for 140.

Division Three

RELEGATED Spye Park seek an elusive win as they crashed to an eight-wicket defeat at Dauntsey Gentlemen.

They were shot out for their lowest ever league score, just 31, as Alan Baldwin, with 6-19 in 12.1 overs and Anthony Lewis, 4-11 in 13, did the damage. One of Spye's openers carried his bat for 15 not out.

At Cherhill, visiting Wanborough scored 161-9, with Mat Hayden (55) and Keith Stacey (24) the major contributors. Andrew Clinning, 3-30 in 15 overs, and Alan Thomson, 3-27 in 13, were then largely responsible for bowling Cherhill out for 127, Alan Mortimer top scoring with 22.

At Swindon, the home side's 3rd XI gained a four-wicket win over visiting Bathford after restricting them to 132-7.

Seagry also struggled for runs at Urchfont where they closed at 125-8 as Mark Bateman took 4-46 in his 15 overs. Bateman then hit a robust 69 not out to see Urchfont home by eight wickets with 10 overs to spare.

Division Four

CORSHAM 3rds were restricted to 102 all out at Lambourn by some steady bowling.

Mark Unwin then replied with 6-9 in 15 overs as Lambourn subsided to 33 all out.

Relegated Coates lost for a second time, this time at Ramsbury. Nick Money (55) held their innings together as they struggled to 114 all out. Richard Gilligan took 3-19 then his 32 and with Dave Rushen (45 not out) took Lambourn to a comfortable seven-wicket win.

At Heytesbury, a fourth wicket stand of 93 between Justin Wagstaff (61) and John Livesey (25) helped the home side to 163 all out against Blunsdon. In reply, Blunsdon paced their innings a shade too carefully and it needed Rob Harrison to hit the last ball for six to win the match for them by three wickets. Harrison had earlier taken 6-36 in 14 overs and shared the wickets with Kevin Aubrey, who took 4-23 in 14 overs. He then scored 74 in an opening stand of 126.

Division Five

A CLOSE match at Chippenham saw the home side's 3rds successful by two wickets against visiting United Churches.

The Churches scored 200-6, with Richard Tong making 40 and Dave Martin 40. Tom Bowler took 4-26 in six overs and Dave Sylvanus 2-47 in 13. In response Arran Merryweather (52) led the way, well backed up by Sylvanus (26), Ray Bullen (28) and Joe Haines (25) as Dave Bamford proved the pick of the visitors' bowlers with 3-44 in 12 overs.

The meeting of the promoted sides at Keevil saw Lavington recover from last week's slip to record a 34 run win. John Wiltshire (30) top scored in their 176-9, with Dick Waylen (3-32) the most successful of the Keevil bowlers. Despite a gritty 55 from Paul Fennell, Andy Hillier's 4-38 just swung the match Lavington's way.

Avebury showed they are going to be a force to be reckoned with as they hammered 270-7 at Burbage 2nds. John Coley (55) and Dan Fry (64) led the run spree before Nigel Osborne took 4-28 in 10 overs to help dismiss Burbage for 82.

Warminster 3rds scored 166-6 at Wilcot and despite the efforts of Chris Hyde (50) the home team could muster only 136-7 in their allotted overs.

Hungerford 3rds slipped to 69 all out and went down by eight wickets to Nettleton.

Division Six

AMONG a number of fine performances on the day perhaps the outstanding came in Goatacre 3rds' home encounter with visiting Biddestone 2nds.

For the visitors Dwaine Perry had a match to remember. He smashed his way to 192, with 17 sixes, in a total of 319-8 both scores being league highs for Biddestone. Among the mayhem Colin Beattie managed 4-92 in 13 overs.

Not content with that Perry then took 5-7 in three overs as Goatacre collapsed to 70 all out.

At Box 2nds visitors Calne 2nds had James Guthrie (108 not out) to thank as they reached 185-8. In reply Box were restricted to 149-5.

Cooper-Avon Tyres 2nds were bowled out for 118 despite Keith Steggal's 50 as John Withrington took 3-25 in 11 overs for visiting Buscot Park 2nds. Andy Moreby (63 not out) then helped Buscot to an easy seven-wicket win with 17 overs in hand.

Division Seven

DAUNTSEY Gentlemen 2nds crashed to their lowest league score as they were bowled out for 49 by Trowbridge A, Steve Chalk (5-22 in 11 overs) and Pete Rutland (4-14) doing the damage.

This in reply to a Trowbridge total of 130 all out, Chalk top scoring with 34 as Mel Camish took 3-40 in 11.2 overs.

Promoted sides All Cannings and Nationwide House 2nds met at All Cannings and the home side gained an impressive 72-run win. After scoring 177-7, Kevin Ryles took 5-23 in nine overs to see Nationwide bowled out for 105.

Potterne 2nds had an afternoon of ball chasing as visiting Westinghouse 2nds piled up 402-7 with Aussie Tom Francis making 169 (both team records) and Ian Proctor 65.

In the mayhem Nick Hinchcliffe took 3-48 in 12 overs. Potterne were then bowled out for 118, with Tony Stanfield (47) and David Evans (25) top scoring and Joe Haines taking 3-17.

Beanacre 2nds lost by six wickets at Bath Civil Service 2nds after they were bowled out for 94.

Division Eight

A REARRANGED game at Westbury last Sunday resulted in the home side gaining a 73-run win against Wootton Bassett 4ths.

Richard Coleman (88) and Ian Edmund (41) helped Westbury A to 230-6, Paul Sheffield taking 3-10 in eight balls. In reply Bassett made 157 all out, Geoff Millington (50) top scoring as Westbury's bowlers shared the wickets.

Saturday saw Westbury at Warminster 4ths and lose heavily by 190 runs. Warminster rattled up 275 all out, with Simon Webb top scoring with 106. For Westbury, John Derham took 4-45 in eight overs, including a hat-trick. In reply Westbury were bowled out for 85, Steve North (36) top scoring as Craig Hunt took 4-22 in six overs.

Bassett 4ths entertained Devizes 4ths and won by six wickets. Devizes made 116 all out, with 14-year-old Stephen Gardner taking 3-7. He then made 27 not out and with Garry Williamson adding 38 saw Bassett home with 23 overs to spare.

Marshfield 3rds were bowled out for just 66 at home to Swindon 4ths, with Stephen Cole taking 3-11 in six overs and 13-year-old Craig Taylor 2-4. Swindon went on to win by seven wickets.

At Highworth, Cherhill 2nds made 144 all out, Steve Hutchins (38 not out) top scoring as Garry Bryant took 4-31 in 11 overs and Geoff Halls 4-31 in 10.2 overs. Skipper Craig Bell 72 not out then saw the home side to a narrow one-wicket success with seven overs in hand. Paul Andrews took 3-35 in 14.1 overs and Hutchins weighing in with 5-45 in 12 including a hat-trick, but all to no avail.

Beehive Bradford scored 195-8 at United Churches 2nds, with Mark Reid making 41 and Chris Sharp taking 3-41 in 13 overs. Churches were then bowled out for 65, with Les Hambley (3-15 in 11 overs) and John Doherty (3-11 in 11 overs) the leading wicket takers.

Bathford 2nds made just 88 all out at home to Biddestone 3rds, with Dave Munch taking 4-17. Alan Bell (66) then enabled Biddestone to cruise to a nine-wicket victory.
