DEVIZES were given a lesson in patience and control as they went down to a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of near neighbours Swindon at London Road on Saturday.

The visitors put Devizes into bat after winning the toss, but the home side began briskly and piled on 30 runs in the first four overs.

Captain Andy Hodder made 26, with Mark Colyer and Australian Shaun Hilliard weighing in with 31 and 38 respectively.

But the failure of all three to build a big innings from promising starts proved costly for the hosts, who collapsed from 102 for two to 179 all out.

Devizes made a quick breakthrough in reply, with Muse taking a superb catch from the bowling of Doran, but from then on Swindon batted steadily and gave few chances.

Hodder and Hilliard managed a wicket apiece, but Baden finished undefeated on 84 as Swindon cruised to victory by seven wickets.

Devizes travel to Gloucestershire to take on Winget on Saturday.
