MUSICIANS with Amesbury town band are keeping their fingers crossed that Saturday's "open day and blow-in" has brought them more recruits.

About a dozen turned up at the open day at Antrobus House wanting to join in with an informal practice session by the band's musicians.

All their names and addresses were taken and they were told about the band's weekly practice night in the hope that they would turn up.

Band spokesman Brian Carter said the open day was even more successful than they had hoped.

He said: "Lots of people came in to look at the exhibition of old photos of the band going back to 1890 and around a dozen expressed an interest in having a play with us and perhaps joining us."

The band is searching for new recruits to help swell their numbers and is particularly looking for younger players to join the learner band, which will supply adult musicians later.
