FOLLOWING the decision which threw out the Devizes Town Council proposal to amalgamate with Roundway Parish Council I would hope that next time this question arises it will be treated with a lot more openness.

That some change will occur is inevitable and I remain convinced that the logical way forward is that Roundway Parish Council remains to serve the village of Roundway with the Town Council gifting it Leipziger Plantation which surely must logically belong with the Parish?

The benefits to the Town which would arrive by absorbing the expanded residential areas of the new build areas of Roundway Parish are quite obvious and I'd like this whole issue explored deeply to give everyone involved and affected a fair deal.

For instance we currently have the situation where the Town Council has been forced to dismantle and look for a new location for the skate-park; a much used and loved facility for the youth of our town.

After all this is our town. When asked where I live I, like the rest of us, I imagine, don't say Roundway Parish I proudly say the Town of Devizes, and the skate park is a facility that youth from the whole town were able to use and enjoy.

As a matter of urgency it must be re-instated. The re-location of the skate park surely ought to be one of the major current debate exercising the minds of all councillors serving the geographical area of Devizes. Personally I believe this much needed recreational facility ought to be located on the south side of the Green next to Devizes School wall.

I understand that this is an area where the youngsters who would use the facility would be happy to see it reinstated but apparently the powers that be have stated it cannot be put there because it would detract from the beauty of the Green.

I suppose another argument might be the Green is used by the circus and fair when they are in Town.

The circus is on the Green as I write and the area in question is not being used by it.
