RUGBY: THE hallowed turf of Twickenham beckons for ten-year-old front row forward George Bowes, who will represent Bath Mini U10s in the final stages of the Prudential Cup before a packed house next Saturday.

George, of Worton, near Devizes, has starred as both a prop and a hooker in Bath's national cup run and will line up in the semi-final of the event before the England versus Barbarians match next week.

The U10s booked their place in the last four after returning from the two-day qualifying event in Nottingham with a 100 per cent record from their six pool matches.

They will take on Old Northamptonians in the semi-final and, if successful, will go on to play either York or Fullerians later in the day.

George, who has played for Bath since the age of seven, has never been to Twickenham before. He said: "I am nervous because we are in the final now. We have only been beaten twice this season and have played really well."

Bowes is excited about watching his England heroes take on a Barbarians side featuring the likes of Jonah Lomu after he and his Bath team-mates have completed their matches.

He said: "My favourite players are Martin Johnson, Jason Robinson, Matt Perry and Jonny Wilkinson. I've never even seen England play before, so I am looking forward to that."

Dad Bruce is also looking forward to the occasion and believes Bath have a decent chance of lifting the prestigious trophy. He said: "George is really excited, but I think the parents of all the boys are equally if not more excited.

"To see your boy play at Twickenham is really good."
