ANOTHER mobile fast food van could soon be selling burgers and kebabs, in spite of opposition from a Swindon school.

Swindon Council has received an application from Yasin Ozkasap, 22, to use the layby in front of St Joseph's Lower School in Queens Drive, Walcot, as a trading area for his fast food van.

But governors of the school are vehemently opposed to the application and have submitted a letter of objection to the council.

The school's business manager, Ann Parry, said: "When I received a copy of the application I was a little bit nonplussed to say the least it's a very strange request.

"It is where cars and buses are moving around all the time and after school hours the site is used by a lot of community groups. We don't want anything to be sited there and are sure our neighbours feel the same way.

"Litter is another concern we have enough problems with litter from the 400 children here.

"Our caretaker is horrif-ied at the problems it could cause."

Mr Ozkasap, of County Road, was unavailable for comment, but his cousin Halil Dayon, 22, said there was nothing wrong with the application.

"I think it's a good idea. A lot of people want to have fast food and we always clean up after we have finished.

"We would probably start serving at 6.30pm and finish at 1am. I don't see a problem with that and hopefully the council will approve the application."

Council spokesman, Adrian Ruck, said: "The hours have not yet been specified. We have informed local residents and have contacted environmental health and traffic engineers and are awaiting their reports."
