JUNE 9: A PERFORMING arts student from Trowbridge is on her way to pop superstardom.

Emma Holmes, 18, has won her way through to the final of the Carling Bath City Pop Superstar competition on June 9.

She said: "I'm really looking forward to it. It will be a great experience for me and a chance to get myself heard."

She got her place in the grand final after performing Cher's It's in his Kiss in heats held on May 10.

The Trowbridge College student also won a three-month representational contract with a management company and a day in a recording studio.

On Tuesday she and the other 11 finalists recorded a CD at Unit 3 studios in Bristol, which will be on sale at the final in Bath.

The former Clarendon School pupil is not a stranger to the stage. She is a member of the Trowbridge Players and has a 13-year background in dance.

When she finishes her two-year-course at college, Emma hopes to apply to drama schools and dreams of attending Bristol Old Vic before going on to a career in musical theatre.

She said: "At the end of the day I want to get qualifications, I think that is better than doing something that may all be over in a really short time."

Miss Holmes comes from a family of performers: her father has been a member of Trowbridge Amateur Operatic Society, her sister is a gymnast and her brother a member of the Trowbridge Players youth group.
