THE former Governor of the Falklands Islands, Sir Rex Hunt, had an emotional reunion with the RAF pilot who flew him back into Port Stanley at the end of the Falklands War.
Sir Rex met with Squadron Leader Harry Burgoyne at RAF Lyneham 20 years after the Hercules pilot returned him to the base in June 1982.
The former spitfire pilot had returned to the Falklands Islands to resume his role as governor, having been forced to leave the Islands after the Argentine invasion on April 2, 1982.
The reunion saw the two men fly a Hercules from Lyneham into RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, where Sir Rex's historic journey began.
The 12-and-a-half hour flight two decades ago then took the men to Ascension Island in the Atlantic Ocean, via Senegal in west Africa, and on to Port Stanley in an RAF Hercules C130K.
Former Flight Lieutenant, Mr Burgoyne, was later awarded the Air Force Cross for his service during the conflict.
