I THINK the BBC are winning the World Cup television battle.

Messrs Lineker (right), Hansen, Reid and company just seem to pack more punch when it comes to analysis.

ITV may have the likes of El Tel and Bobby Robson but whoever booked Gazza needs their head examining. He can barely string a sentence together.

I just think the ITV coverage as a whole is a touch glutinous.

Bring back Brian Clough and Mick Channon.

I think a case could also be made for adding Andy King to a panel. He and Peter Reid together should make for interesting viewing.

I suspect they would have to be on after the nine o'clock watershed though. The Town boss has already said he is not afraid to grace the small screen.

Although tongue was firmly in cheek, King said he would go on Survivor in order to win a million pounds for transfers. I think he would win it hands down.

If you can survive two years at the County Ground (albeit with a five month 'gardening leave' break in the middle), a few weeks on an inhospitable island should prove a doddle!

FIRST Oscar nomination of this World Cup goes to Rivaldo.

The Brazilian star showed classic theatrical style as he clutched his face having had the ball kicked into his midriff by Turkey's Unsal.

Will his antics be surpassed?

Seriously, I utterly despise this sort of thing. If you have such talent, why cheat?

Ally McCoist was being too kind when he described the Brazilian's actions as 'embarrassing'.

Perhaps Rivaldo thought no-one was watching?

He has subsequently said that it is the kind of thing which will happen a lot in this World Cup.

I weep for the future.
