The Bathtub Bistro in Bath is a wonderful little eatery tucked away down Grove Street, off Pultney Street. If you didn't know it was there you would miss it, but once found you will keep going back.

It is split over three levels and can cater for parties up to 60.

It is candle-lit, has wooden chairs and tables, stone floors and the background music varies from jazz, blues and world music to create a relaxing ambience and the staff are particularly friendly and efficient.

For a starter my partner chose salmon and sweet potato fishcakes with a dill and chive yoghurt dressing, on warm pitta bread.

The fishcakes were delicate with subtle flavours. They seemed to have been fried and were very slightly on the oily side.

I chose garlic bread, which was granary rather than the typical French bread, which made a nice change.

As a vegetarian I then went for field mushrooms stuffed with pistachio and olive stuffing topped with mozzarella cheese, which were fantastic There were five vegetarian (non fish) courses to choose from as well as roasted stuffed peppers filled with sundried tomato risotto on the specials board.

Usually vegetarians get palmed off with pasta dishes, but I was spoilt for choice at the Bathtub Bistro .

My partner chose the fillet of pork with mushrooms and smoked bacon in a mild blue cheese and chive cream sauce.

He said the pork was tender and absolutely delicious and the blue cheese sauce was not over powering or over creamy.

Side dishes are sold separately at the Bathtub. We choose to share some fresh vegetables and the Bathtub's famous skin-on fries which are a must.

The vegetables consisted of carrots, broccoli, and pureed parsnip which was wonderful and all were perfectly cooked.

We were too full for desert but the menu was definitely tempting. It consisted of pecan pie, toffee fudge ice cream, mango sorbet, chocolate and orange brioche pudding, summer fruits crme brulee, profiteroles with cream and chocolate sauce, or mint chocolate sundae.

Starters are priced around £3.95 and include barbecue prawns, mushroom, cream cheese and garlic pate, brioche with watercress and wild mushroom cream filling, roasted mixed pepper salad.

Main dishes are priced from £5.95 for a Bathtub Burger up to £11.75 for a fillet steak. Desserts are priced around £3.60.

Our meal, including a bottle of wine and a bottle of beer, came to £38.25.
