The Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sir Maurice Johnston, visited Wootton Bassett Town Council Chamber last Wednesday to present commemorative certificates to local people who have sponsored installation of parish boundary stones.

The town council invited pledges from the public to commemorate the Queen's golden jubilee

Mayor Peter Roberts recalled that since the project was launched, in July 2001, a great deal of research and planning has been involved.

Individuals, families and community groups have given support by pledging £150 donations, and the project has been steered to success by deputy town clerk Wendy Comley.

Thirteen stones are in place already. They are of roughly hewn stone from a Tetbury quarry, and each incorporates a polished granite plaque with an inscription which includes the name of the donor.

Sixteen sites are currently allocated for stones but more have been identified and anyone interested in sponsoring a stone can contact CASCADE on (01793) 850222.
