FLORAL tributes appeared outside the Shambles market hall in Devizes last week on the second anniversary of the death of Big Issue seller Dale 'Dylan' Fulton, who took his own life after suffering from depression.

Mr Fulton, 40, a gentle giant who was well known and liked in the town, was found hanged in a barn in Box on May 29 2000, a few weeks after being released from Weston super Mare general hospital after trying to kill himself by throwing himself down cliffs at Cheddar Gorge.

When he heard the news of his son's death, Mr Fulton's father Jim suffered a fatal heart attack.

The largest bouquet of the group left outside the Shambles, where Mr Fulton used to sell copies of the homeless magazine Big Issue, was from his mother Doreen.

Mr Fulton, who was unmarried, slept rough on the streets of Devizes and used the offices of Kennet Action for Single Homeless as a postal address.

At the inquest into Mr Fulton's death in September 2000, Mrs Fulton said she was shocked he had been released from hospital without any kind of support. She maintained he should have been transferred to Green Lane Hospital in Devizes, rather than bed and breakfast accommodation.

She said: "If he had been released to a better qualified person and to better treatment, he would be alive today."
