PARENT Justin Oliver has taken his campaign for road safety outside his son's school to MP Michael Ancram, after amassing 154-signature petition urging action.

Mr Oliver, of Corfe Crescent, Calne, whose seven-year-old son Luke attends Fynamore Primary, presented his petition to Mr Ancram on Saturday.

He has also shown it to Calne Town Council.

The concerned parent said unless something is done soon there could be a fatality on the stretch of road between Lickhill Road and Beversbrook Road, past the school.

He said: "The fact that no one has been seriously injured is more luck than planning because the road is just a ticking time-bomb."

Mr Oliver said he was hopeful his meeting with Mr Ancram would move his protest forward.

He said if nothing is done he is prepared to take on the voluntary post of crossing patrol to ensure children get to school safely.

The school opened in September last year and was built by housing developer Persimmon Homes.

Coun Nancy Bryant, who represents Calne on Wiltshire County Council, and is a governor at Fynamore Primary, said the onus was on developer Persimmon Homes to address people's concerns.
