YOUNG people in the Devizes area who have been left without skateboard facilities can now use mobile ramps at the Southbroom Centre.

Since the closure of the town council run skate park in the town's Hillworth Park, skateboarders have been using supermarket car parks and other open spaces.

The skate park closed after Hillworth Road resident Bill Richardson won a noise nuisance case at Bath County Court.

The skate park equipment was removed in March.

While the search continues for a new site, skateboarders can use mobile ramps based at the Southbroom Centre in Devizes.

They are generally available for use on every night that the centre is open every night except Tuesdays and Saturdays, at a charge of 30p a night.

Five portable ramps were paid for with money from the Kennet Community Safety Partnership and the Devizes Market Towns Initiative.

Youth and community worker Margaret Lamb said the ramps had proved extremely popular.

She said it was planned to take the ramps out to other youth centres in the area, such as those in West Lavington, Market Lavington and Urchfont.
