CHILDREN'S book illustrator Bridget MacKeith does not have to look far when she gets stuck for inspiration. Her own two offspring, Morgan, three, and Martha, one, give her plenty of ideas she said.

Ms MacKeith, 35, who writes under her maiden name, lives at East Chisenbury, near Little Bedwyn, and is married to energy conservation company director, Gareth Holden.

She has been illustrating children's books for eight years .

With a new studio built onto her home she can mix her roles of being a busy mother with her career.

The latest book she has worked on is Eric and the Voice of Doom (Andersen Press £3.99) written by Barbara Mitchellhill and is the fifth in a series she has illustrated for this author.

Another recent book with her work is Please Don't Eat My Sister (A&C Black £8.99) by Caroline Pitcher which, said Ms MacKeith, is one of her favourites.

The ideas of what the characters look like, said Ms MacKeith, invariably come from the author. "They tell the illustrator what they want, how they want the characters to look and then you get on with it."

Even though she has illustrated for dozens of books, Ms MacKeith still has an ambition to write one herself one day. She said: "It's a question of finding the time."
