A WOMAN from Alderbury has hit out at what she calls sneaky tactics by Salisbury District Council in the positioning of one of its new parking meters.
Sue Clissold, a carer, was away from Salisbury when the meters came into use last month but says she has accepted them as "part of life".
However, she was angered when she realised that one, in Endless Street, was set so far back from the road that visitors to Salisbury could easily miss it, thus risking a £60 fine.
She said: "I was in Endless Street last week, and you stand there and think,'Where is it?'.
"Then you discover it's round the corner, by the council offices.
"Some people were getting out of their car in front of me they were Italian and visiting the cathedral.
"They hadn't seen the meter and would have had a £60 fine if I hadn't stopped them and pointed it out.
"There are no notices to say there is now meter parking and you cannot see the meter from that end of the street."
