HAVING recently read Sue Bates comments regarding STFC and the threat from herself and other councillors to pull the plug, I have to confess I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the comment that the council has bent over backwards to help the club. (I guess I must have blinked and missed that occurrence.)
It strikes me that they are just using the club's crisis as a means of diverting attention from their massive failings in many other areas.
However, if the relatively small amount of money owed by STFC is such a big issue then I suggest they stop their blustering and just get on with shutting the club down.
With themselves free of the STFC headache, they can then concentrate on throwing even more large sums of cash at the pointless task of trying to achieve city status.
Incidentally as I understand it, the council believe that becoming a city will be good for the town because it will help to raise Swindon's profile.
May I suggest that there is already a well established and proven means of raising a town's profile what you want is a successful football team playing in a quality multi-purpose stadium.
