NORTH Wiltshire MP James Gray has attacked the Government's record on education funding in the district.

Mr Gray has branded government education funding to the county as "scandalous and grossly unjust".

He made his attack during a House of Commons debate on education.

He claimed Wiltshire is the second lowest funded authority in the country.

He said: "Why is it that every secondary school child in Wiltshire receives £2,701 a year under the standard spending assessment, whilst in the secretary of state's constituency every child receives £3,031 a year, and in Tower Hamlets it is a staggering £4,237 per pupil?

"How can it be fair for children in the minister's constituency to receive nearly £1,000 more each per year than children in Wiltshire?"

Mr Gray was told by Education Secretary Estelle Morris that this year will be the last that education is funded through the SSA.

Mr Gray said: "This is an issue that rightly deserves immediate resolution."
